About the first book, The Making of a Presidential Mathematics and Science Educator...

Discovery Association Publishing House (DAPH) is proud to present a series of

volumes
containing the unpublished, autobiographical, accounts of individuals who

have
become the Presidential Mathematics and Science Awardees (PAEMST).

Although honored for their singular abilities and aptitudes as teachers, their talents

began long before the President of the United States found and recognized them.

Where every person's hour of life is important, these (PAEMST) women and men

measured the success of their hours of life by what they gave to their students.

Here they present real stories behind their climb to the hour of recognition.

When they gathered for their historical week on Capital Hill, these

awardees developed a camaraderie that led to this literary quilt of a life-long

fellowship. Each page attests to a life of service and a commitment to the

educational betterment of society. These honorees are the teaching progeny of

the National Science Foundation; these are integral warriors in America's fight to

reclaim an excellence in mathematics and science education.

DAPH is proud to announce Dr. Keith B. Armstrong's new book, Alika’s Journey to the Sea  and its expected release in September 2012.

ALIKA’S  JOURNEY TO THE SEA

IN THE SPIRIT OF HEALING

Keith B. Armstrong

Dr. Armstrong takes the reader on a historical-fiction journey of personal enlightenment, spiritual awakening, and sacred Hawaiian beliefs. Through a mystically gifted young child, Alika, the reader watches him grow, develop unusual talents, start a halfway house for inmates, fight demon spirits, fight powerful drug lords, fight the wilderness and wolves of Canada, find the woman of his destiny. In the end the book reveals the most important tenants to balance our mental, emotional, and spiritual challenges in life.

Much of Alika’s Journey to the Sea chronicles Dr. Armstrong’s life travels, experiences, and most of the significant writings in his self awareness books. He draws from his experiences at Harvard University, his purchase and building of a remote Canadian commune, his experiences on the Hawaiian Islands, and his lifelong commitment to meditational studies and practices he takes in Northern India and Christian retreats.

In short, walk a mile in Alika’s footsteps and you will find your heart being lifted, your understanding of the values of life increased, and an appreciation for why good and evil challenge each of us until good prevails. Let Alika inspire your days and your own journey to the sea.

For years, Dr. Armstrong has been teaching both critical thinking and writing to Hawaiian inmates, but in reality he has been taught by inmates to appreciate the thousands of stories they share about struggling Hawaiians on the islands. Out of respect and support for these men, the publisher donates a portion of the book sales to Hawaiian prison ministries, where it is used to support programs for Hawaiian inmates’ children.

This inspired text contains the autobiographies of fifty highly acclaimed adult educators largely from the U.S. and Canada, talking about the forces that brought them and held them in the area of Adult Education. (These quintessential writers were unanimously selected by leaders in adult education as they displayed tendencies to participate in extracurricular projects, without knowing the exact outcome, for the sake of education or expanding knowledge.) Collectively, these memoirs exemplify the potency of community activism and partnership. As life is at least a journey through lessons over time, contributors' entries in this book are also a historical record that reveals the connections of their socially conscious "talk" to their "walk" among the students, communities, and programs to which they have given so greatly. Tribute by Dr. Ronald M. Cervero and Dr. Sharan B. Merriam.
